Community Forest Retreat

UPDATE: Curiously this property is no longer listed for sale. Hopefully an imaginative deal is in the works.

In a just world this lavish home would be acquired by the people of Humboldt County for use as a public facility we’ll call the Community Forest Retreat. Keeping this property in private hands would be a failure of imagination.

This is an imagining of The Land Office a project of the Imaginal Services Bureaux. We are imagining the most just use of property for sale in Humboldt County. This is an archived post so some of the links may not work. Read on…

Just before the last sale of this property in 2014 the County of Humboldt acquired the surrounding 1,000 acre woods known now as the McKay Community Forest. The admirable work of County staff provides a clear vision for expansion and continued management of this community forest.

We have invested in a vision of how this land will be a benefit to all of Humboldt County for the benefit of future generations. Similarly the property nestled in this community forest could be more than just the playground of a wealthy family and their inner circle of friends. Imagine the possibilities!

As a Community Forest Retreat we all can share in the enjoyment of a getaway in the woods. When guests from our sister cities come visit or film companies are scouting locations, they could stay here. Every Humboldt County resident registered to vote could have a voucher to book a stay here. We need not be limited in imagining the best use of this former home site.
