Things don’t go as planned.
Instead of a trip to have a full weekend off to visit friends and watch a WNBA game, I drove all day Friday and all day Sunday to sit with my mom on Saturday as she continues the transition out of this life.
I will go up in a couple weeks to see how things are going as my brother, my sister-in-law, and my mom’s husband continue total great care of her. She’s doing the work of exiting here and entering somewhere else.
Now all of this seems unimportant, as does everything. But it always did. Life’s meaning is found in the present moment by way we respond to the things that happen.
The attached graffiti appeared right outside my door in the alleyway.
What I Did
Drove up to a used book house call in Kneeland.
Didn’t find much, but it is a service we provide and once in a while we get lucky. I always learn a little about a person from the books they kept and the relations who are there to take care of the estate. Another interesting person passes on.
The drive was beautiful.
What I Listened To
The It Books of September 2025 on the Book Riot Podcast
Listened for work… Nothing too exciting…
273: Trump Will Die on the Conspirituality Podcast
These guys always have an interesting show, but sometimes it doesn’t interest me. This week kept me engaged, especially as they started with the shenanigans with the Oura Ring which (until I listened to this show) I wore. Then into analyzing the Trump situation and how it is more than him. Yes…
Episode 262: I Honestly Don’t Even Know Where to Begin Today on Fifteen Minutes of Fascism
Again… hearing Craig Johnson continue to be increasingly amazed by the lethal shenanigans happening in our country is a curious sensation. This week with more international examples!
How America Goes Broke — ft. Ray Dalio on Prof G. Markets
I think Dalio’s analysis is sound, but boy does he play both sides. He refuses to condemn the fascist nonsense happening and that is troubling. I think he knows that we are on our way out and China is on their way in. He’ll invest wisely and be dead before the changes get to whatever walled garden he has built up to keep the marauding bands of jobless and homeless out. Truly troubling.
If Democrats Have a Better Plan, I’d Like to Hear It on the Ezra Klein Show
As usual, Klein’s commitment to what might be called Liberalism keeps him from making the ideological jump to a radicalism that could actually get to overthrowing the underlying problems of our systems. His analysis and presentation is always so well honed that I find myself going along with him mentally, but he does’t quite get all the way where I would like him to go. The show was as the titled advertised.
What I Watched
Return of the Jedi
My sweetheart had not watched it in awhile. Good to relax as heavy news had just come in.
A Bold Idea to Rebuild the Working Class — Molly Hemstreet on TED
What a fantastic seven minute video that gives me hope that we can do this. Worker owned business works!
Amanda Defeats 20 Trash Pandas on Signified B Sides
Host F. D. Signifier always has a good rant about issues affecting Black Americans. I like the perspective and like the Nebula platform where you can find him instead of the tube.
What I Read
We Were Made for This by Rebecca Solnit in her email newsletter Meditations In An Emergency
I always love reading Solnit’s work. I have never been in disagreement about her position, attitude, presentation, or wording. I shared some of her work with a friend recently who was not familiar. I felt like I had the greatest present to give!
Automatic Noodle by Annalee Newitz
This book is amazing. I loved it. My new favorite. I even went online and bought a T-shirt.
