This week was filled with antifascist goodness. Thanks for being a supporter of the work I do.
Hosted Agenda Review Group
This was a holiday so only one other person showed up. We did help charge a homeless woman’s phone.
Co-hosted Antifascist Networking Event
This was the second of what will be monthly events at the Labor Temple (attached picture is of the hall after the event). This is a special place that has likely seen a few antifascist meetings over the last century. Great attendance at this one makes me think we are picking up steam.
An interesting part of this process is that my co-conspirator Elle and I are hosting this event but letting the larger Humboldt Solidarity Coalition form if there is a desire for it from within the event’s participants. Maybe it will take a little nudge. We’ll see.
Of course, I’ve been running around getting large papers for note taking, pens for the same, and nametags (which I of course forgot to bring). Also had a great conversation with a newer friend who has done coalition building work. She gave me some great ideas (which I implemented in the meeting) to get folks to indicate a modicum of buy in to how we are proceeeding.

Met with California Independent Booksellers Alliance Executive Director
This is a cool organization that support shops like mine around California. The Executive Director was touring the shops in the north of the state.
Zoomed into Checking in on the Humboldt Economy Presented by the Chamber of Commerce
I learned quite a bit about how things are going. Yep. We have been through some challenging times and continue to work through the challenges.
Attended Top Secret Project Meeting
Bwaa-haa-haa! You’ll find out soon!
Attended the Humboldt Library Foundation Board Meeting
I’m on the Board. We are already planning for our Gala which happens in December. This is a great group of folks.
Hosted the Weekly Solidarity Study Group
This session was the first in the speculative fiction series. We chatted about ancient and medieval instances of the genre. It’s fun to chat with folks who know different things. Also, we didn’t chat too much about Plato’s Republic and more about Christine de Pizan’s Book of the City of Ladies and the Peach Blossom Spring. Next, late 19th century novels of the genre.
Attended Symphony Final Show of the Year
Thanks to the previous owner of the bookshop who could not attend, I was able to take my sweetheart to this show. This was a delightful way to spend an evening. We talked about supporting them next year.
All in all, a delightful (and busy, as usual) week.
Thanks for your support.
