Jared Huffman, the Congressional Representative for the district I live in, held a Town Hall meeting locally. I could not attend, but watched the entire event on Access Humboldt, our local community access television channel, online.
Many mentioned the sense of community seeing all of the folks there, including the congressman himself. However, I was quite disappointed.
His response was lacking in so many ways.
The main thrust of his argument was to work together to elect Democrats so that they can work on getting things back on track.
When challenged many times about voting for military funding for the genocidal government of Israel, he argued with the protesters at the event labeling what they did as “misplaced advocacy” that cost us the presidency. Ridiculous.
He ended by invoking Bill Clinton. I was not happy when he was elected and when in office Clinton cemented the Democrats’ determination to embrace neoliberalism.
I am pretty sure I drifted further to the Left (that is, away from Huffman and his supporters) in the last couple of hours.
I will continue to work with others in my community to make the world a better place, but following Huffman and the Democrats is not a part of the plan.
